In the basement of the National Archaeological Museum there are the remains of the Patriarchal Palace of the Longobard period erected on pre-existing buildings of the late Roman period linked to the early Christian basilica of Santa Maria Assunta.
In the rooms on the upper floor of the Palazzo dei Provveditori Veneti, the current seat of the museum, there are precious grave goods found in the suburban necropolis and in burials of prominent figures of the Germanic ruling class buried in representative places in the town.
Extraordinary testimonies of the material culture of the Longobards, expressing the evolution of customs and rituals from 568 to the 8th century.
